New Pet Policy at Sunrise Orchards

New Pet Policy at Sunrise Orchards

Sunrise Orchards' Pet Policy

At Sunrise Orchards, we prioritize the safety and comfort of all our customers and employees, including our furry friends. That is why we have implemented a pet policy at Sunrise Orchards.

We happily welcome service dogs at Sunrise Orchards, as they provide vital support to individuals with disabilities. Service dogs are registered with and protected by US Federal Law, granting them access to all public places.  We fully comply with these regulations and embrace the presence of service dogs in our retail building.

However, in line with state regulations and strict food safety standards, we do not permit other pets inside the Sunrise Orchards retail building. This policy ensures the highest standards of cleanliness and the well-being of all our visitors. We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation in adhering to this policy.

We have provided a designated area for walking dogs, the Sunrise Orchards Memorial Dog Walk Park. This park is located near the east end of the building and offers a safe enjoyable space for pets to stretch their legs and enjoy some outdoor time.

We were honored this weekend when a 4-year-old Goldendoodle Service dog and his family came to Sunrise Orchards this weekend.  He is a registered Psychiatric Service Animal under the American Disabilities Act (ADA).

Did you know that under the ADA Title III regulations issued by the Department of Justice, there are only two questions that a business may ask to determine if an animal qualifies as a service animal: 1) Is the dog required because of a disability? 2) What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?

However, a business may not ask these two questions when it is readily apparent that the service animal is performing a task for a customer with a disability (for example, a dog that is observed guiding a person who is blind or has low vision). Also off limits are questions about the nature or extent of a customer’s disability and requests for proof of service animal training, licensing, or certification.

Service dogs have rights under the law, and businesses cannot deny them entry into public spaces, even if there is a "no pets allowed" policy in place. Furthermore, businesses and individuals are not allowed to inquire about a person's disability, ask for medical or training documentation, or request that the dog demonstrate their abilities. Service dogs undergo rigorous training that can take years to complete.

It's important to note that service dogs and emotional support dogs are not the same. Although both types of dogs assist people with disabilities, they are governed by different laws. Service animals are trained to perform specific tasks that aid individuals with disabilities, while emotional support dogs provide emotional comfort but are not required to perform specific tasks.

When it comes to rights under the law, it's important to understand that Emotional Support Animal (ESA) rights differ from those of service animals. While service dogs are guaranteed acceptance in all public places, ESAs may not be accepted, especially in businesses with a "no pets" policy.

We kindly request that you adhere to our pet policy at Sunrise Orchards. Cute and adorable puppies, as much as we love them, are not permitted inside our retail building due to state regulations. We invite customers to utilize the dog walking park located on the east end of the building instead.

Please note that we have new signage posted on all entrances stating, "No Pets Allowed Except Service Animals."  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in adhering to our pet policy. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
