Hillcrest Orchard History

Hillcrest Orchard has a rich tradition and family legacy. Established in 1958 by Francis Fleming and his father, James Sr., the orchard thrived under the dedicated stewardship of the Fleming family for over 25 years.  Covering 22 acres of apple trees and one acre of cherries, their produce was sold at the roadside market located at the intersection of State Highway 61 and Highway 171, where it remains today.

In the spring of 1985, Robert Zimpel from Plainfield, Wisconsin, a local native and Readstown High School graduate, took over the orchard. With the invaluable support of long-term resident Robert "Bob" Johnson and a many other employees, the orchard continued to thrive under his management.
