Slow Cooker Applesauce

INGREDIENTS

3 pounds of fresh apples,

¾ cup of water

½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

To prepare the apples, simply peel them and remove their cores, stems, and seeds. If you're short on time, you can use an apple corer to speed up the process. Cut the apples into 1-inch pieces to ensure even cooking, although you can skip the peeling step if you plan to puree the applesauce later.

Place the prepared apples, water, and ground cinnamon into your slow cooker, covering it with the lid. Cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 6 hours. If possible, stir the mixture halfway through the cooking time to ensure even flavors throughout.

Once the apples are soft and tender, use a potato masher to mash them into a smooth, lightly chunky texture. For a smoother consistency, you can use an immersion blender directly in the slow cooker to achieve the desired texture.

Let the applesauce cool, then transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 1 week. If you're looking to stock up, you can also freeze the applesauce for up to 3 months.

Nutritionally, this homemade applesauce is a guilt-free treat. Each roughly 1/4 cup serving contains approximately 59 calories, 16g of carbohydrates, and 3g of fiber. It's a low-fat option that still offers the sweet taste you love.

Our personal favorite apple variety for this recipe is the Honeycrisp, as it adds a delicious flavor reminiscent of a fruit compote. However, feel free to use any apple variety you prefer.
