Premier Honeycrisp and Honeycrisp - What's the Difference?

The Premier Honeycrisp, is our early Honeycrisp strain.  This year they will be available at the end of August. Premiers taste exactly like a regular Honeycrisp and have the same crunchy texture.  They are excellent in raw preparations.  When cooked they maintain their sweet flavor.    So what's the difference between them?

Premier's ripen earlier, can bruise easily so handle with care, absolutely require refrigeration and have a shorter storage time, making them unsuitable for long term storage the way a regular Honeycrisp is. Premier Honeycrisp apples absolutely require refrigeration once you bring them home. Premier Honeycrisp apples keep best at 38 degrees Fahrenheit and high humidity (90-95%) but NOT for months.  Premier Honeycrisp apples are great for eating, pie, sauce, baking and freezing.

Our regular Honeycrisp apples have a crisp texture which makes them shine in raw preparations; eating out-of-hand, diced and added to coleslaw and chopped salads; or sliced thin and added to sandwiches and burgers.  They maintain their sweet flavor even when cooked and are great in pie, applesauce, jelly, apple butter etc.  Honeycrisp apples keep best at 38 degrees Fahrenheit and high humidity (90-95%).
